How do I clean a bread machine that overflowed into where the element is?

I made some bread in the bread making machine and it overflowed and went down into the the area where the baking element is. I have removed most of what I can but there is still a lot of baked/burnt on bread on the bottom of the bread maker. How can I clean this?

I would use one of those tough scrubbers you can buy usually in the detergent aisle, and use just enough water on the scrubber to help it work. Another option I might try would be steel wool soap pads with just a little water on the pad. It will be a tedious job but it should work.
